Following graduation he attended Beaver County Community College. ![]() Mr. Aitken is very involved in a variety of community activities and servers on the Board of Directors of the following organizations: National Alliance of the Mentally Ill, Beaver County Consumer / Family Satisfaction Team, and Greentree Historical Society. David is also a trained speaker for mental health issues. David is a retired employee from Penn Central / Conrail Railroad and from 1968 thru 1996 served as a yardmaster for the railroad. Mr. D'Arcangelo has worked with the following companies: A & P Tea Company, General Telephone, Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Company, Tridea Electronics, and Lacey's / King Arthur's Pizza. Most of his professional career has been devoted to supervision and management. ![]() Mr. D'Arcangelo has an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Pasadena City College. He is a graduate of the American Automobile Association's Highway Safety Education Instructor Certification School in Fairfax, Virginia. In 1978 Richard went into business for himself where he owned and operated Lacey's / King Arthur Pizza franchise. After 10 successful years in the pizza business, Richard felt it was time to semi-retire, and sold the business. Mr. D'Arcangelo is very active in his community where he serves on the Board of Directors for Habitat and Humanity of Mercer County, serves as an instructor for the Shenango Valley YMCA, and is a Boy Scout School Career Speaker. He is still active as a National Junior Tennis League Instructor and is a Pasadena Rose Parade Assiciation Member. Seniors For Safe Driving is very fortunate to have Richard as a certified instructor. He teaches classes up and down Interstate 79 from the Mercer area to Erie, Pennsylvania. In 2004 Richard reached over 5000 seniors while teaching Seniors For Safe Driving classes. Mr. D'Arcangelo currently lives in Hermitage, PA. John has completed the instruction certification process in October 2009. Mr. Duignan lives in Dauphin County and will organize and teach highway safety classes in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. ![]() Major John Duignan is a recently retired law enforcement professional who worked his entire career with the Pennsylvania State Police. He has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Elizabethtown College. Mr. Duignan brings to Seniors For Safe Driving a wealth of experience in the field of highway safety education and the presentation of seminars as they relate to senior drivers. His experience, training and special skills in the field of highway safety certainly makes him more than qualified to present program for Seniors For Safe Driving. Jack served as a member of the Capital Beltway Advisory Committee in the Harrisburg area with local legislators, law enforcement and community leaders in an effort to improve interstate highway safety and save lives through innovative public information and awareness campaigns. Major Duignan was in charge of high-visibility and aggressive traffic enforcement programs. Jack’s leadership qualities and communication skills will serve him will in the organization and presentation of classes for Senior For Safe Driving. Garritano - Bob is a graduate of North Braddock - Scott High School. He attended Clarion University where he earned a B. S. Degree in Social Studies and Highway Safety Education. Mr. Garritano attended Duquesne University where he became certified in Counseling and Administration. Further studies continued at California University where he received a letter of eligibility to become a school superintendent. And finally Bob attended the University of Pittsburgh where he received a degree in Instructional Design and Technology. ![]() Mr. Garritano has worked in education his entire professional career as a teacher and educational supervisor. As recently as 2002, Bob worked with the Carnegie Science Center as the Education Coordinator of UPMC Sports Works. Bob was the supervisor responsible for launching the new three million dollar project called UPMC Sports Works.Robert J. Garritano Mr. Garritano and his wife Joyce, are the owners and developers of the "Safety Fan" and the program "Color Me For School Bus Safety". Over the years they have presented over 500 programs and have reached 153,000 children in grades K through the 6. With permission from Myron Cope, Bob and Joyce are the creators of the living "Terrible Fan". The "Terrible Fan" is a spin off from the "Terrible Towel". Their new character, "The Safety Fan", is used exclusively in the presentation of school bus safety assemblies. The original "Terrible Fan" costume is on display in the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum. If your school is interested in hosting a school bus safety program you can contact Bob at 724-863-8406. Greesnburg, PA March 1978 – June 1978 Patrolman for Greensburg City Police Dept. Greensburg, PA June 1978 – January 2007 The Pennsylvania State Police Enlisted / hired June 1978. Upon graduation I was assigned to the Troop B Washington Station. In 1981 I transferred to Troop G, Rockview Station in Centre County. I primarily worked in the Patrol Unit; uniformed traffic patrol, enforcing traffic laws, investigating traffic accidents and other incidents. I did spend approximately two years as a plain clothes Criminal Investigator. In April of 1994 I was promoted to Corporal and continued as a supervisor in the Patrol Unit. In June of 2002 I was promoted to Sergeant and worked as a Crime Unit Section Supervisor and later as the District Office Commander of the Williamsport and then the Altoona Liquor Control Enforcement offices. I retired in January 2007. January 2007 – Present Self employed for DL Hawk Consulting; Firearms instructor, licensed private investigator, and security consultant. ![]() ![]() Don Kobak - Seniors For Safe Driving is proud to introduce Donald Kobak at the latest addition to our list certified instructors. Mr. Kobak has a wealth of experience in teaching highway safety education programs for seniors. ![]() Currently, Don is working as the manager of the Blair Senior Center. His personality, educational background , and work experience make him an outstanding candidate to present programs for Seniors For Safe Driving. Mr. Kobak attended Shippensburg State College. Don served in the United States Army as a military specialist from 1962 through 1965. Don is a resident of Altoona, Pennsylvania and will be presenting programs in the Altoona area and surrounding counties. Mr. Kobak will be presenting programs at Epworth Manor in Tyrone, PA and the Altoona Health Care Center in Altoona, PA. Kough - Christopher is a recent recent addition to our list of qualified Seniors For Safe Driving instructors. Christopher's background, education, and related work experience make him one of our most qualified instructors. ![]() Mr. Kough attended Elderton High School from 1958 to 1959 and received his high school diploma from Ford City High School which he attended from 1959 to 1962. Chris attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1970, Emergency Medical Technician Certification from Olympic College in Seattle, WA and finally, in 1977, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Pacific Southern University in Seattle. Most recently Christopher is in the process of becoming a certified highway education instructor and will teach classes for Seniors For Safe Driving. Mr. Kough, after 20 years of service, retired from the United States Army as a Warrant Officer. During his military career he received the Good Conduct Medal in 1966, 1980, and 1984. Christopher's other military awards include the Army Commendation Medal in 1974 and the Meritorious Service Medal in 1978 and 1984. Chris is very involved in numerous community activities which include the following: Volunteer Firemen, Volunteer Ambulance Team, Foster Parent Program, Church Worship Team, and Sunday School Teacher. Christopher Kough currently lives in Indiana, PA. All correspondence for Chris sent to Seniors For Safe Driving's email address will be forwarded to him. ![]() ![]() PK Little - Mr. Little is a retired school teacher who primarily taught Biology at West Middlesex HS. Mr. Little earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Penn State University. His science teaching certification also came from Penn State and his Driver's Education certification came from Slippery Rock University. Mr. Little taught In-the-Car driving for seven years at Lakeview HS, for threeyears at West Middlesex HS and 1 year at the Community College of Alleghany County. In all, he has logged some 5000 hours of accident free driving with teenage drivers. ![]() A former truck driver and avid motorcyclist, Mr. Little believes that the art of defensive driving is a science of do's and don'ts that can greatly reduce the odds of being involved in an accident. He is eager to impart his experience and knowledge of driving to anyone who is willing to listen and considers it a privelege to be able to help mitigate the dangers of driving a car. A veteran of th US Army, Mr. Little served in Vietnam in a dog training detachment where he helped take care of some 200 German Shephards. His hobbies are traveling ( he has traveled extensivly in Europe and Asia), long distance running ( he has completed four marathons and numerous half marathons; all over the age of 50) and experiencing the great outdoors by going motorcycle-camping. Mr. Little is also a musician who plays harmonica and sings in a band called Makin' Changes. He has three daughters and three grand daughters and stays in touch with the younger generation by substitute teaching at Sharon HS. He is looking forward to meeting you. ![]() ![]() Michael Marcantino - After graduating from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement and Corrections, Mike’s law enforcement career spanned 32 years. He began as a Juvenile Probation Officer/Detention Center Superintendent in Lawrence County. Next he patrolled the streets of State College as a police officer in the Borough. ![]() Lastly he retired as a Captain from the State Police after serving twenty-five years. His state police assignments were in Erie, Meadville, New Castle, Somerset, Gibsonia, Philadelphia, Fort Indiantown Gap Training Center, Butler, Reading, and Harrisburg. His last assignment was in the Bureau of Patrol where he had program responsibility for the PSP motorcycle program, DUI enforcement, speed enforcement, mobile video recorder program, aggressive patrol programs, and incident management. Since retirement Mike has worked for the Pennsylvania DUI Association as their Motorcycle Safety Director. Moreover, he is a motorcycle riding instructor for the PA Motorcycle Safety Program. Also, he is the coordinator for the Indiana University of PA constable training program. Mike is pursing a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Penn State. He is an avid motorcycle rider logging 10,000 miles per year. He has instructed in various police academies on the topics of criminal law, vehicle law, interrogation, patrol procedures, DUI enforcement, and accident investigation. ![]() ![]() Jessica E. McMenamin - Seniors For Safe Driving is proud to announce that our newest instructor is Jessica McMenamin from Slippery Rock, PA. Jessica was active as a full time instructor from 1972 through 2005 in the Slippery Rock School District. ![]() Ms. McMenamin earned here B.A. degree in American History from the College of Steubenville in 1971. Jessica completed here M.Ed. Degree in Secondary Guidance and Counseling from Slippery Rock University in 1976. Jessica was elected President of the Slippery Rock Education Association and was very active with the Slippery Rock School District safety committee. Jim Minnich is a resident of Pottsville, Pennsylvania and will present programs for senior drivers in Schuylkill and surrounding counties. ![]() Mr. Minnich is a recently retired Pennsylvania State Police Officer and served in that capacity for 25 years. His professional work experience and training include the following areas: criminal and undercover investigation, instructed Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, firearms instructor and instructed the American Automobile Association’s Mature Operator program. Jim’s educational background is excellent. He graduated from Pottsville High School in 1961, the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1967, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Community Services with emphasis on the Administration of Justice in 1978. Mr. Minnich is considered an expert in traffic accident reconstruction and advanced traffic accident investigation. Jim’s personality, professional work experience, and knowledge of Pennslvania’s Vehicle Code makes him more than qualified to present programs for Seniors For Safe Driving. Mulholland - Michael is one of our newest instructors and will complete his highway safety instructor certification process by the end of June 2008. He will be teaching classes in Washington, Green, and Westmoreland counties. ![]() Mr. Mulholland's educational background is varied and Seniors For Safe Driving is very fortunate to have Michael as one of our instructors. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1968. His education background includes studies at the Pennsylvania State University from 1971 through 1974 and classes at California State University from 1969 to 1971. Michaels experience in the field of criminology and law enforcement, along with experience as a Pennsylvania State trooper, gives him an outstanding background for teaching highway safety classes. His personality and background makes him an entertaining instructor and that makes his classes anything but boring. Michael is also a certified CDL Driver Training Instructor. He attended West Chester State College and is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey, Pa. Mr. O’Connor served in the United States Air Force from September 1979 through November 1988 and worked in the areas of missile site security and was a personal / administrative specialist of a period of five years. As a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy he was trained as a patrol supervisor and a collision analyst and reconstruction specialist. Doug reached the rank of lieutenant and served as a station commander with Troop J in Embreeville, Pa. Seniors For Safe Driving is proud to add Mr. O’Connor to our staff of certified instructors. Doug is more than qualified to present highway safety education classes when you consider his professional work experience and background. He lives in Chester County and will present programs in Southeastern Pennsylvania. July 1, 2004 Seniors For Safe Driving received statewide certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and is now one of four organizations certified to present highway safety programs throughout the entire state of Pennsylvania. ![]() Leo is a graduate of Ridgway High School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where he received a B.S. Degree in Education in 1962. He earned a Masters Degree from IUP in 1964. Mr. Parisi has participated in three American Automobile Association highway safety instructor certification schools. Mr. Parisi's work experience includes professional baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization from 1959-1965. From 1965 to 1972, He started the first Driver Education Program for the East Allegheny School District where he taught and coached basketball and baseball. From 1973 to 1981, Leo accepted a similar position with the Butler Area School District in Butler, PA. In 1973 Mr. Parisi opened a restaurant in Butler, PA where he expanded the restaurant business to include operations in Titusville and Indiana, Pennsylvania. Also included in his restaurant operation was a seafood restaurant in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Upon his retirement in 1994 he started a new company, Seniors For Safe Driving, which is conducting well over 250 instructional classes a year in Western Pennsylvania. Starting in 2006 Seniors For Safe Driving is expanding its operation to include classes in Eastern Pennsylvania. Gail has a wealth of experience in education as a teacher in the Penncrest School District in Crawford County. She has taught classes in just about every age group from elementary education to adult education seminars. ![]() Ms. Stickner is a graduate of Edinboro University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree as well as her Masters Degree in education. Gail is an outstanding teacher with a wonderful personality and is excited about presenting Seniors For Safe Driving programs in Northwestern Pennsylvania. She will present programs for Seniors For Safe Driving in Northwestern Pennsylvania from April to December. Gail is excited about teaching again and looks forward to seeing you in one of her classes. ![]() ![]() Dennis L. Yarian - Dennis Yarian is a recent instructor addition and comes to us with a wealth of experience. Mr. Yarian's knowledge of highway safety and his personality make him an outstanding instructor. He studied accounting at Capital University in Columbus Ohio and the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He worked in Pittsburgh for thirty-five years for Mellon Financial Corporation as an Operations Vice President. During his career he taught productivity improvement seminars for the Bank Administration Institute and the American Bankers Association. He is a graduate of the School for Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. Prior to retirement Dennis held numerous volunteer positions and was elected to a six-year term on the Board of Supervisors in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. He currently serves on the Finance Committee for the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and is very active in the Tionesta Lions Club. Dennis is an experienced highway safety instructor having taught the AARP Driver Safety Program for the past five years in Pennsylvania and in Arizona. Dennis currently lives in Tidioute, PA. Mr. Zappa graduated from Clarion University and earned a B. S. Degree in education with a major in Biology and a minor in Mathematics. His Msters Degree was earned at Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a major in Biology. ![]() The National Science Foundation awarded Ben several in-service grants where he studied at Penn State University in State College, PA., Baylor University in Waco, Texas, Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Through the National Science Foundation, Mr Zappa has made many contributions in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology and Mathematics. Ben's entire professional career has been spent as a teacher, head of the science department, and track coach at Ridgway Area School District in Ridgway, Pennsylvania from 1961 to 1994. Mr. Zappa is a graduate of two American Automobile Association's Instructor Certification Schools in Fairfax, Virginia.
